The number of patients with Covid-19 hospitalized continues to increase on Wednesday, according to figures published by the health authorities, faced with an outbreak of contaminations, particularly in Martinique and Guadeloupe, departments now confined.

Hospitals welcomed 9,233 people with Covid-19 on Wednesday, including 773 new people admitted between Tuesday and Wednesday.

1,745 patients in critical care

Critical care services, which treat the most seriously ill patients, have 1,745 patients (including 158 in 24 hours), against 1,712 the day before and 1,371 a week earlier.

This indicator had fallen below the threshold of 1,000 on July 7, before starting to climb slowly.

In the past 24 hours, 54 deaths have been recorded in hospitals.

The breathlessness of the vaccination campaign

Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 45,582,015 people have received at least one injection (i.e. 67.6% of the total population) and 38,154,272 people now have a complete vaccination schedule (i.e. 56.6% of the total population). ).

According to figures adopted every Sunday by the Directorate General of Health (DGS), the vaccination against Covid-19 is running out of steam with the rates of injections and appointments falling, at the beginning of August, to the lowest since late spring.

Outbreak of the epidemic in the West Indies

This trend comes against the backdrop of a vigorous recovery of the Covid-19 epidemic in the West Indies.

"Strict" confinement, which entered into force at the start of the week in Martinique, will be extended to Guadeloupe, the government announced on Wednesday.
