Recently, the murals of Beijing Metro Line 2 have regained their “youth” and reappeared in front of passengers in a gleaming posture.

On August 11, the reporter saw at Xizhimen Station of Beijing Metro Line 2 that the restored "Map of the Great River to the East" and "Map of the Great Wall of Yanshan" were lit by projected lights, and it was magnificent when viewed from the platform.

It is understood that the two murals were created in the 1980s by the famous artist Zhang Ding in collaboration with the landscape painters Long Rui, Jiang Baolin, Wang Yong, Zhao Wei, and Chen Ping. The length of the two murals is about 70 meters each. .

In recent years, these murals have been aged and damaged.

After many design discussions and safety assessments, in September 2019, Beijing Metro Corporation asked a professional company to start cleaning and repairing the murals.

The restoration work can only be carried out within 3 and a half hours after the operation of the subway at night and before the operation of the next day. After the restoration is completed, a layer of nano protective film should be sprayed on the surface to maximize the protection and extend the life of the mural.

In addition, the murals at Jianguomen Subway Station and Dongsishitiao Subway Station have also been restored.
