The National Pavilion awaits creations that tell inspiring stories at the Venice Biennale

The State's National Pavilion has invited an open invitation to submit ideas and proposals on the concept of artistic evaluation of the National Gallery, which is held on the sidelines of the 2023 edition of the International Exhibition of Architecture at the Venice Biennale, whose period of organization will extend between May and November 2023.

The country’s national pavilion targets curators and supervisory teams, including architects, designers, artists, historians and researchers, who have practical experience in the UAE, the Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan and Pakistan, with the aim of presenting ideas and proposals that will continue to translate the vision of the National Pavilion, and tell inspiring national stories, It monitors the dimensions and aspects of the urban and urban landscape in the country, and will in turn enhance awareness of architectural practices locally, regionally and internationally.

For her part, the Executive Director of the Salama Bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, Angela Megley, said that the task of evaluating the national pavilion during the 2023 edition of the International Exhibition of Architecture is a great opportunity to share inspiring stories about the UAE, from the architects' point of view, in a contemporary global dialogue, adding “The National Pavilion of the State, based on its vision to provide a platform for innovative ideas, continues its commitment to consolidating the foundations of international dialogue and cooperation, within the topics of urban and architectural development and living in a modern world. We urge all those interested to quickly submit their proposals and join our journey, to add qualitative contributions to this fruitful global dialogue.”

For her part, Laila Bin Brik, Coordination Director of the UAE National Pavilion, said, “We are pleased to announce that a second open invitation has been extended to submit ideas and proposals about the vision of the technical evaluation in the UAE National Pavilion, during its participation in the International Exhibition of Architecture at the Venice Biennale 2023. Meanwhile, we will continue to research We will encourage different perspectives, opinions and new voices, and we will encourage applicants to find collaborative and creative ways to address the modern Emirati dialogue in a way that addresses a global audience.”

The proposed concepts and ideas must include the theme and approach of the exhibition’s artistic evaluation through a clear message, placing the idea in the context of local, regional and international dialogues, revolving around architecture, including themes of previous exhibitions of the country’s National Pavilion.

It is noteworthy that the application window closes on October 31 next.

Finalists will be invited to present their concepts in full, during the second round of the selection process.

The exhibition "Plastic Land" represents the 10th participation of the National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale, and highlights the potential of using salts and mineral compounds in the sabkha region (salt flats) in the UAE, with the aim of developing them into sustainable building materials.

The National Pavilion exhibition was sponsored by the architectural curators: Wael Al-Awar, architect and co-founder of Yway Studio;

It is a multi-award winning studio specializing in architecture, landscaping, graphic and urban design, and architect Kenichi Teramoto, co-founder of YY Studio and recently established Teramoto's office in Japan.

The Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation is the official delegate of the National Pavilion, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Youth.

The National Pavilion welcomes all citizens, residents or applicants abroad, to showcase their local expertise and knowledge, either individually or in groups.
