The Tokyo Paralympic torch relay, which will start in Tokyo on August 20, will not be held on public roads due to the spread of the new coronavirus.

At the Tokyo Paralympic Games torch relay in Tokyo, more than 600 runners were supposed to run in a total of 23 wards and cities for five days from August 20th to the opening of the tournament on the 24th.

However, as the infection spreads and the city is requesting to refrain from going out unnecessarily under the state of emergency, the executive committee formed by the city and local governments will be held on public roads on the 10th. I decided not to.

Instead, we will gather the runners who were supposed to run and hold an ignition ceremony.

"It's an unavoidable situation, but I think many people, including runners, were looking forward to it, so it's a shame. I want to hold the ceremony after taking appropriate infection control measures."
