Is it an "IQ tax" to spend money to change your resume?

It is the graduation season, and the recruitment market continues to grow hot.

For job seekers, the resume can be described as a "stepping stone" in the job search process.

The number of college graduates in 2021 will reach 9.09 million, and job hunting will be fierce.

Not long ago, the topic of "Chongqing girls helped 30,000 people find jobs successfully by changing their resumes" rushed into hot searches, making resume optimization a buzzword.

This makes some job seekers wonder, is it really useful to ask someone to change their resume when looking for a job?

Is spending money on resume optimization services paying the "IQ tax"?

  Resume creation requires corresponding guidance

A few days ago, a survey conducted by the media of 1,534 college students interviewed showed that 71.2% of the interviewees were troubled by their resume production.

Ninety-three percent of the interviewed college students indicated that they needed support, and 76.5% of the interviewees wanted to share their experience with successful seniors.

A senior HR in Chongqing revealed that every recruitment season, the company will receive a large number of resumes. On average, HR stays on each resume for about 15 seconds.

In this case, a well-worded and neatly typed resume is very important.

"I didn't expect that after I spent more than 300 yuan on the optimized resume, I soon received an interview invitation." Recently, Xiaobi, a girl from Chongqing who is about to graduate with a master's degree, said happily to reporters.

Reporters searched on the Internet using "resume optimization" as a keyword and found that many online shops and recruitment platforms provide services such as writing and optimizing resumes, and clearly marked prices, ranging from one to two hundred to thousands of yuan.

As a well-known resume optimizer in the circle, during the graduation season, Tang Jing's orders are generally 2 to 3 times higher than usual.

"The revision of your resume does not guarantee that you will receive an employment notice, but it can basically be changed until the customer is satisfied." Tang Jing said.

There are risks of personal information leakage, fraud, etc.

Recently, 33-year-old Yan Binwu got a job referral opportunity through acquaintances, hoping to modify his resume in a targeted manner.

So, he spent 500 yuan on the online platform to find a resume optimization studio.

It can be changed, he feels that the adjusted resume is always "no emotion, no content, empty and boring".

"The work I have done over the years is the frontier hot spot of the industry, and the volume is large and solid. From the resume material, it is very bright." Yan Binwu sighed, "For some highly professional jobs, HR without industry experience is rewritten. Resume, it’s better to put more effort into doing it yourself."

The reporter's interview found that some resume optimization services are "adulterated and falsified", such as falsifying academic qualifications and certificates, falsifying internship experience, or unrealistically exaggerating personal experience.

At the same time, there are risks of reselling resumes and personal information leakage.

In this regard, the Chongqing Human Resources and Social Security Department reminds job applicants that resume optimization or "burial mine" may lead to fraudulent resumes if you are not paying attention. Don't step into the "distrust trap" for a "bright" resume.

  Improving employability is the key

"Optimizing resumes can become a business, reflecting the absence of college education in this area." Mo Yuanming, a researcher at the Upper Yangtze River Economics Research Institute of Chongqing Technology and Business University, suggested that schools should strengthen resume production for graduates who lack job hunting experience. Provide employment guidance to help students make career planning and achieve employment smoothly.

Mo Yuanming believes that instead of spending money on optimizing resumes, job seekers should improve their own abilities, combine their professions, abilities, and interests, clarify their career goals, deliver their resumes in a targeted manner, and combine their application positions when preparing their resumes. The most shining places are shown. For example, when applying for a position with a high level of writing skills, the language ability can be reflected on the resume; for positions such as advertising design, the resume can be made more innovative; for foreign companies, you need to prepare a foreign language CV.

Regarding the resume optimization service on the online platform, Li Jian, a partner of Beijing DeHeng Chongqing Law Firm, suggested that the online platform perform its management responsibilities and conduct standardized guidance. At the same time, the regulatory authorities should strengthen supervision and promote the standardization of resume optimization services.

In addition, businesses suspected of providing fraudulent resumes and leaking personal information of job applicants shall be punished in accordance with laws and regulations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of job applicants.
