Due to technical incidents and difficulties related to the nature of the soil, the drilling operations for the construction of the wind farm in the bay of Saint-Brieuc (Côtes-d'Armor) are seriously delayed, observe the fishermen, very hostile. to the project, whose work is disrupted by the site.

"In three months, since the start of the work, they have drilled six boreholes and three others are in progress, while the planned rate was three boreholes every four days", explained Friday Alain Coudray, president of the departmental fisheries committee. , during a press point in Pordic.

“We were told twenty-four months of work including twelve months of drilling.

There, given the slowness of the drilling, we do not know how many more months it will take, ”continues the chairman of the fisheries committee.

Initially, 90 boreholes were to be drilled by October out of the 190 (186 for the wind turbines and 4 for the electrical substation).

These boreholes should make it possible to install piles which serve as foundations for the masts of the 62 wind turbines in this park, built by Ailes Marines, a subsidiary of the Spanish group Iberdrola.

Each wind turbine mast is supported by a tripod, which requires three holes per wind turbine.

The fishermen leave the consultation

In addition, the fishermen have decided to no longer participate in consultation meetings with the maritime prefecture and Ailes Marines, considering that their positions are not taken into account in decisions concerning the site. "Everything that Ailes Marines asks for, they get", deplores Alain Coudray. He mentioned the example of a meeting at the maritime prefecture in Brest in which the project leader asked to expand the authorized area for the site, which the fishermen do not want. However, Ailes Marines has just obtained the approval of the authorities.

Launched at the beginning of May, the site experienced several technical problems, including oil leaks which led to short-term suspension of drilling. Ailes Marines recognized the difficulty of drilling in the bay's seabed. At the same time as the drilling, another vessel is carrying out pre-slicing operations at sea for the electrical wiring, which is an additional upheaval that "disturbs the species".

"We are destroying the fishing areas of the park (in the bay of Saint-Brieuc) with the approval of the government", denounced Alain Coudray who is surprised at the silence of elected officials and authorities after the words of Emmanuel Macron in Polynesia on the necessary acceptability of wind farms by the inhabitants.

When contacted, Ailes Marines could not be reached at the time.

The wind farm of the bay of Saint-Brieuc must be erected 16.3 km from the coast.

It is supposed to produce 1,820 GWh per year, the equivalent of the annual electricity consumption of 835,000 inhabitants, according to Ailes Marines.

Its commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2023.
