• According to a text shared by many Internet users, anti-Covid-19 vaccines would become obsolete on October 20.

  • According to him, the deployment, on this date and within the European Union, of five treatments against the disease would put an end to the vaccination strategy.

  • However, if the European body has signed agreements in order to offer treatments for patients suffering from mild symptoms, these have not yet been validated… and their deployment would be done in addition to the vaccination.

You are not vaccinated against Covid-19 and you do not intend to be?

Wait a little longer, and you will escape the restrictions linked to the health pass: this is, in essence, the message delivered by a viral text that has become on Instagram as on Facebook.

“All the vaccines will expire on 10/20/2021.

Information verified.

The European Union has approved […] 5 therapies that will be available in all hospitals in the Member States to treat Covid.

These therapies are approved by decree of the European Council (European Parliament) and will be in operation from 1/10.

So will be distributed little [by little] around 20/10, ”says this publication.

Before concluding: “The vaccines have been approved on a provisional experimental basis.

However, given the prescription of these 5 new drugs, the use of the vaccine will end.

[…] You have to be patient.

Do not accept any blackmail.

FAKE OFF

The European Commission announced, at the end of June, a “first portfolio of five treatments which could soon be available to treat patients across the EU”.

“The five products are at an advanced stage of development and have a good chance of being among the three new treatments against [the] Covid-19 that will be authorized by October 2021 […] provided the final data demonstrate their safety, quality and efficacy ”, however specified this same press release.

Since this first announcement, the European institution has signed two contracts in this area, including one for the Sotrovimab treatment, currently being evaluated by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), with a view to being "used for treat patients with mild symptoms [of] Covid-19 who do not require supplemental oxygen, but who are at high risk of developing a severe form of the disease.

"

"The two strategies are totally complementary"

However, the arrival of these treatments, whether in October or later, does not mean the end of the vaccination campaign deployed at European level, as confirmed by an official of the European Commission at

20 Minutes

: "These two strategies [of vaccination and treatment] are completely complementary. Vaccination is accelerating across Europe […] but although it makes a difference and is a cause for optimism, it will not stop the pandemic overnight. In addition, treatments play a crucial role in our fight against Covid-19. "

Finally, contrary to what the text shared on social networks affirms, vaccines against Covid-19 are not "in a provisional experimental process" but in phase 3 of testing, a step which consists in measuring their effectiveness and their long-term safety, among the tens of thousands of volunteers who began these clinical trials in July 2020.
