Sanpei Sato, a manga artist known for the four-frame manga "Fuji Santaro," which is based on the life of a salaryman, died of aspiration pneumonia on the 31st of last month.

Born in Nagoya, Sanpei Sato made her debut as a manga artist while working at a department store in Osaka after graduating from a vocational school, and gained popularity for her four-frame manga.



"Fuji Santaro," which was serialized in the Asahi Shimbun in 1965, is a humorous satire of Japanese society and social customs from the period of high economic growth to the bubble period, based on the life of the main character of a salaryman. It was serialized for more than 26 years with the sympathy of a wide range of generations, including the elderly.



In recognition of these achievements, we received the Purple Ribbon Medal in 1997 and the Order of the Rising Sun Small Ribbon in 2006.



According to people familiar with the matter, Sanpei Sato died of aspiration pneumonia on the 31st of last month.
