• Health Study Music festivals in Catalonia with public triggered the contagion of coronavirus

  • Criticisms The Catalan health minister says that the music festivals were "a mistake"

  • Festival Vida Without masks or social distance: chaos in the first post-pandemic festival

  • Cruïlla The great test of the festivals of Europe

The directors of the

Vida, Canet Rock and Cruïlla music festivals

have questioned the data that the Ministry of Health presented yesterday about the infections that occurred among those attending these events and have demanded a rectification because, in their opinion, it was offered "a totally distorted image".

According to Health data,

2,279 of the people who attended these

live music

events

, which were held in Catalonia between July 1 and 10 with specific access conditions,

were infected

with covid, 842 more than the expected by health authorities (1,437).

The Secretary of Public Health, Carmes Cabezas, considered that these infections, "above what is desirable", had

"a role in the transmission"

of the fifth wave of the pandemic in Catalonia, along with other no less appreciable data, such as opening of activities on those dates, the outbreaks of the Balearic Islands and the fact that the delta variant is much more contagious than the previous ones.

Speaking to RAC1, the director of Cruïlla, Jordi Herreruela;

the director of Canet Rock, Gemma Recoder, and the director of Vida, Daniel Poveda, have expressed this Thursday their

"indignation" at the "damage" to the sector

produced by the published data.

"It is not the data that we expected and we do not consider it as good.

It is neither rigorous nor valid

. I am very angry and offended by how Salud has behaved and I ask for a public apology because I believe that this presentation does enormous damage to us and to the sector ", Herreruela emphasized, explaining that from the organization of Cruïlla they have commissioned an" in-depth and much more qualitative "study to draw their own conclusions.

"This exercise that Health did yesterday, if it were to do it on another economic activity, the result would be the same or worse," stressed the director of Cruïlla, who has accused the Department of the Generalitat of

"criminalizing" the sector

.

Along the same lines, Recoder has questioned the rigor of the data and has criticized the Department led by Josep Maria Argimon for not having previously shared the information with them to analyze and discuss it jointly.

The directors

have

also

denied that people with a positive diagnosis entered the premises

and have regretted that Health has not valued the prevention effort made by the festivals with the massive screenings they organized to detect infections.

In a point of self-criticism, all the directors have recognized that

the Delta variant of the covid "caught them off guard"

and that in some cases they lacked "fluency" in the performance of the tests, although they have highlighted the complexity of organizing the screening devices .

On the suitability of celebrating these festivals when the data already showed a growth in infections, the director of Vida has admitted that "the epidemiological moment may not be the most optimal to do all these things."

However, they have remarked that they had the authorization and supervision of the Health department: "We do what they tell us we can do," Recoder recalled.
