A research group at Shinshu University discovered a new species of mushroom at Mt. Tsubakuro in the Northern Alps.

A research group at Shinshu University has discovered mushrooms with small yellow umbrellas in the alpine zone near Mt. Tsubakuro and Mt. Nishihotakadake in the Northern Alps, and Mt. Kisokoma in the Central Alps at an altitude of about 2500 to 2600 meters. ..

According to the research group, the mushrooms found are classified in the same Tricholomataceae family as Matsutake mushrooms, but as a result of multiple DNA tests, it was found that the mushrooms confirmed so far are different. This month, I plan to submit a paper in an international academic journal stating that a new species has been found.

This mushroom was found only in the forest of Pinus pumila, and the DNA sequence is very close to that of the mushroom distributed in the mountainous areas of North America. I think that it has become native to the alpine zone of Japan due to global warming.

Associate Professor Akiyoshi Yamada of the research group said, "It is classified as Matsutake, so I would like to find out if it can be eaten. If the high pine belt declines due to global warming, this mushroom may follow a similar fate, and changes in the environment. I also want to see how it reacts to. "
