After a dispute over the mask requirement, an armed mob tried to storm a Berlin snack bar.

On Tuesday afternoon, emergency services were called to the snack bar in the Altglienicke district, where hundreds of people tried to break into the shop and threatened the employees, as the police announced on Wednesday.

On site, the officers found around 25 people in a quiet situation.

Police investigations revealed that a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old had entered the snack bar in the afternoon.

They are said to have been advised of the mask requirement by a 24-year-old employee.

The two responded with incomprehension and aggressiveness and hit the counter.

The 24-year-old is said to have pushed the two men out of the business with the support of two other 28-year-old employees.

There was a physical argument between the 19-year-old and the 24-year-old, in which both are said to have hit each other in the face.

The attacking duo then fled, but announced that they would return with a larger group of people.

A few hours later, an unmanageable group appeared in front of the snack bar. According to witnesses, there were up to a hundred men, some of them armed with knives, alarm weapons and pepper spray. The employees had stepped in front of the shop to defend themselves against an attack. They are said to have grabbed and hit the 19-year-old from the group. When the police arrived, most of the group fled while the staff returned to the store.

A little later a man drove up in a car and asked for help.

The 19-year-old lay unconscious in the back seat of the car with injuries to his face.

The officers took care of him and an ambulance took him to a hospital.

When he regained consciousness, he reacted aggressively and did not want to give any information about what was happening.

An alcohol measurement showed a value of 2.6 per mille.

He was released after outpatient treatment.

In front of the shop, the emergency services confiscated individual armaments.

The criminal police are now investigating the suspicion of a serious breach of the peace, the suspicion of simple and dangerous bodily harm and the violation of the weapons law.
