The Emirati young woman, Amani Al Shehhi, won the Ikebana accreditation from the Ohara Ikebana School in Japan, becoming the first Emirati woman to obtain this accreditation.

Ikebana, or the Japanese art of flower arranging, dates back 600 years, and focuses on simplicity, asymmetric beauty, and seasonal elements.

Ikebana is distinguished from other arts related to flower arranging around the world by its interest in the aesthetics of free space.

There is an inherited tradition in Japanese art practices that requires students to obtain accreditation from their teacher in the craft, and Amani obtained her accreditation from her teacher and received the name Ikebana Misaki, which means beautiful prosperity.

This accreditation is the first step on a path that may lead in the future to the highest levels of appreciation, which is the appreciation of the first professor of Ikebana.

The Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, Akihiko Nakajima, personally congratulated Amani Al Shehhi on her achievement and her contribution to strengthening the cultural bridge between the UAE and Japan, and encouraged her to continue studying Japanese traditional art, which may turn into an eternal learning journey.

Amani's fascination with Japanese culture began at a young age, when she was dazzled by the elegance of the Japanese kimono, and then reinforced her interest in Japanese aesthetics when she joined the Japanese Club at Zayed University, where she participated in applied activities related to several aspects of Japanese culture, including the ikebana.

Amani started her journey with Ohara Ikebana School in 2015 and participated in more than 120 classes.

Her efficiency was demonstrated when she contributed to coordinating the ikebana for the national reception held by the Japanese Embassy in the UAE to celebrate the birthday of the Japanese Emperor in 2018 and 2020.

Amani Al Shehhi said: “It is a great honor to receive this accreditation from the prestigious Ohara School of Ikebana, and I am sure that the skills and knowledge I have acquired will help me spread the eloquent message of Ikebana in the UAE, which relates to concepts that go beyond flower arranging and delve into the philosophy of the Japanese way of life.”
