The documentary "SCHUMACHER" about Formula 1 icon Michael Schumacher is about to be published after a long wait.

The film will be shown on Netflix from September 15th.

This was announced by Schumacher's management on Friday.

In the documentary, his wife Corinna and the children Gina and Mick would also talk about Michael Schumacher "in very personal interviews".

The film is "a gift from his family to the beloved husband and father," said manager Sabine Kehm.

Michael Schumacher himself has been shielded from the public since his skiing accident at the end of 2013.

Despite wearing a helmet, he had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury in a fall and was in mortal danger for days.

How he is doing is not known, and details about his health are not published.

The now 52-year-old has been married to Corinna since 1995.

Daughter Gina is 24 years old, son Mick 22. He's been driving Formula 1 this year like his father once did.

The documentary traces Michael Schumacher's path “from the Kerpen gravel pit to a global superstar,” the message said.

Among other things, companions and friends such as Schumacher's former Ferrari team boss Jean Todt (now world association president), ex-Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, his former manager Willi Weber and the former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo also express themselves.

The publication was actually planned for December 2019, but was then delayed.

"The documentary was a great challenge and required a lot of time and sensitivity, considering the external pressure on the production," explained producer Benjamin Seikel.

"But thanks to a great team and a really great collaboration with the family, we didn't let ourselves be upset."
