After months of arson in Gundelsheim (Heilbronn district) and the surrounding area, a firefighter was sentenced to ten years in prison.

The district court was convinced on Friday that the 32-year-old set seven fires between April 2019 and November 2020 and thus also endangered human life.

In one case there was a shed near a house where a family of four slept.

Therefore, the German had to answer for attempted murder, among other things.

Among other things, the court was convinced that he set fire to more cars, stacks of hay, another barn, an inn and a clubhouse.

At that time, the damage totaled around half a million euros.

The man had admitted most of the offenses in the process and declared them to be a depressive disorder.

"You were very, very lucky that nothing more happened," said the presiding judge when the verdict was announced.

The public prosecutor's office had demanded ten and a half years in prison, the defense lawyer considered up to eight years in prison to be sufficient.

The verdict is not yet legally binding.
