Egg carving is a kind of folk handicraft carved into a picture on the eggshells of birds. Various patterns are embodied by carving techniques such as relief carving, Yin carving and Yang carving. In recent years, it has gradually flourished.
Egg carving craftsman Wu Yize is the fourth-generation non-genetic inheritor of Lanzhou micro-carving. He has been engaged in nuclear carving and leaf carving for more than 20 years.
Two years ago, he accidentally saw craftsmen record life in the form of egg sculptures. He was attracted by the novel recording method and tried to use egg sculptures to record the beauty of his hometown.

Eggs (shells) are things that everyone discards after eating. We use this waste product to make it into handicrafts.
We can carve our Gansu landscapes, our characteristics, Zhongshan Bridge, Horse Ta Feiyan, Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, and we can all engrave them on the eggs, attracting everyone to learn about Lanzhou.
[Explanation] Wu Yize has traditional craftsmanship and carving skills, but designing and sculpting landscapes on eggshells with a thickness of 0.2 mm has also encountered considerable challenges.

Engraving is easy to make (design) and difficult. It takes a long time to make a product and design a pattern. There are more processes. This goose egg (thickness) is 0.2 mm, which is as thin as an egg (thickness). If a pattern is embossed, it is very difficult, all of which need to be manually (operated) and scraped out slowly.
[Explanation] Wu Yize told reporters that unlike graphic design, it is restricted by the round shape of the egg. The design requires reasonable imagination and clever presentation. This process requires several attempts to succeed. A “Gansu landscape” egg sculpture works often It takes more than a month.
Nowadays, whenever Wu Yize goes to a place, he draws the design drawings of his egg carving works in his mind, and then repeatedly revises them until he completes the corresponding egg carving works. He is always happy about this.

Lucky gourd, beef noodles, and sheepskin raft warships are a feature of our Lanzhou. I want to carve them on (ostrich eggs) to show (Lanzhou charm).

[Commentary] Wu Yize told reporters that he plans to not only record the beautiful scenery of his hometown, but also add the element of "flying sky", so that the public can feel the novel recording method while deepening their understanding of Dunhuang culture.
