At the moment of winning, there was cheers at the Cultural Square of Wutong Town, Lingui District, Guilin City, Guangxi.

Shi Zhiyong's parents and relatives gathered here to watch the live broadcast of the game.

"I know he has strength, so I am not nervous when watching the game. Now my son has won the championship. I am very happy. He likes to eat the vegetables grown at home. We will cook the food at home and wait for him to come back." Shi Zhiyong's mother Tang Xidi was excited. Say.

Relatives and friends at the scene held the sign "Shi Zhiyong, come on! Hometown people support you". When Shi Zhiyong appeared on the stage, the sign and flags would be waved, and there were bursts of cheering and shouting.

On the side of the Cultural Square, there are also many Wutong farmer painters creating paintings and calligraphy works on site.

Father Ishibashi said that before going to Japan to compete, Shi Zhiyong called and said not to worry about him. "He said he was healthy and he would definitely win the championship when he went to Tokyo."

Speaking of Shi Zhiyong, his mother Tang Xi’s brother had moist eyes. She said that her son was sensible and capable since childhood. “When we were young, we farmed and he helped us cut rice; when we built the house, the two brothers would also help move bricks.”

Walking into the hometown of Shi Zhiyong, Chongwei Village, Luojiang Village Committee, Wutong Town, the couplet is particularly eye-catching.

Relatives and friends came to Shijia earlier that same day.

Shi Zhiyong's two nephews also specially cut hairstyles with Olympic elements to cheer for them.

"I think his success is inseparable from his bit by bit hard work and daily persistence." Shi Zhiyong's cousin, Long Sufen, said. When he first went to practice weightlifting, he went home to eat and found that his palm was worn out by weightlifting. , But he still insisted on training and never thought that he could rest because of the injury.

In the living room of Shi's family, various photos of Shi Zhiyong's competition and training are hung in the picture frames on the wall, including photos of him winning the weightlifting at the Rio Olympics.

Born in 1993, Shi Zhiyong was originally named "Shi Lei". He joined the weightlifting team of Wutong Central Primary School at the age of eight. He studied under coach Xiao Shuanggui and started his own weightlifting career.

In 2004, Li Dongyu, a weightlifting coach at Ningbo Sports School in Zhejiang Province, returned to his hometown to visit relatives. After seeing Shi Zhiyong, he took him to Ningbo Sports School for training.

Because of "too many stones" in the name, coach Li Dongyu changed his name to Shi Zhiyong, which means "both wisdom and courage".

Xiao Shuanggui recalled that Shi Zhiyong had shown great strength since he was a child. "Compared with children of the same age, Shi Zhiyong had outstanding physical fitness when he was a child, and he was particularly able to endure hardship. He was a natural weightlifter."

In Xiao Shuanggui's view, Shi Zhiyong's performance today is within the scope of his ability and he deserves the gold medal.

Wutong Town, located in the northwestern suburbs of Guilin, is one of the four ancient towns in northern Guangxi and also a famous "hometown of weightlifting."

This small town with a population of only 60,000 has successively emerged a number of Olympic or world weightlifting champions such as Xiao Mingxiang, Tang Lingsheng, Xiao Jiangang, Shi Zhiyong, and has become a national weightlifting high-level talent training base.

Xiao Shuanggui said that on the same day, in the 2021 Guangxi Youth Weightlifting Championships being held here, Lingui weightlifters won three gold medals. Among them, 13-year-old Qin Yuqi and Shi Zhiyong were in the same village and won the 45kg gold medal in clean and jerk.

As a coach of the weightlifting team of Lingui District Amateur Sports School, Xiao Shuanggui now leads more than 10 students.

He believes that more "Hercules" can come out of the "Hometown of Weightlifting".
