"By the end of 2020, the total number of primary-level TCM clinics nationwide has reached 36,300, and 85.4% of community health service centers and 80.1% of township health centers have set up TCM clinics. We understand that some primary-level medical and health institutions have provided TCM diagnosis and treatment. Yan Huaguo said that relevant state departments support traditional Chinese medicine hospitals to take the lead in establishing medical consortia, and promote the improvement of the overall level of grassroots Chinese medicine; encourage and support traditional Chinese medicine hospitals to take the lead in establishing county medical communities, urban medical groups, and traditional Chinese medicine specialist alliances to give full play to the simplicity and convenience of Chinese medicine. Recently, the National Health Commission and other three departments issued the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Work of Traditional Chinese Medicine in General Hospitals to Promote the Coordinated Development of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine" (referred to as the "Opinions").
"In this new crown pneumonia epidemic, Chinese medicine and western medicine have coordinated medical treatment to promote the in-depth intervention of Chinese medicine in the whole process of diagnosis and treatment. It has played a key role and made important contributions." Yan Huaguo said that the "Opinions" are to promote epidemic prevention and control. The integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine medical model of "mechanism, teamwork, measures, and effectiveness" summarized in the Chinese Academy of Sciences can better meet the growing medical and healthcare needs of the broad masses.
According to Yan Huaguo, the following measures have been taken to promote the coordinated development of Chinese and Western medicine: all tertiary general hospitals will set up TCM departments, support secondary general hospitals to set up TCM departments, and at the same time strengthen the staffing of TCM and TCM pharmacies in general hospitals.
Strengthen the collaboration between Chinese and Western medicine in clinical departments of general hospitals, strengthen the deployment of Chinese medicine physicians in clinical departments, and build a team of integrated Chinese and Western medicine in clinical departments so that patients can receive combined Chinese and Western medicine diagnosis and treatment services in clinical departments.
