The National Archives of the UAE and the National Archives of the Republic of Colombia signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at cooperating in activities that enhance cultural and knowledge exchange, implement archival training programs, and exchange experiences in the field of archives.

The MoU was signed by the Director General of the UAE National Archives, Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Raisi, and the Director General of the Colombian Archives, Enrique Serrano.

The proceedings of the MoU signing ceremony took place (remotely) and transmitted via interactive technologies;

In implementation of the precautionary measures required by the current stage, in the presence of Salem Rashid Al Owais, UAE Ambassador to Colombia, Jaime Amin, Colombian Ambassador to the UAE, Abdullah Majid Al Ali, Executive Director of the National Archives, and a number of officials from the national archives of the two friendly countries.

Salem Rashid Al Owais praised the UAE National Archives and its great role in preserving the nation's memory, and urged the archivists to strengthen constructive relations that would develop and advance the archival work.

Jaime thanked the Secretary of the UAE for its role in supporting the Republic of Colombia in its response to the "Covid-19" virus, and expressed his hope that this memorandum would be a means to strengthen cooperation between the two countries at the archival and documentary levels.

Abdullah Mohammed Al Raisi reviewed the role played by the National Archives for more than half a century, noting that the National Archives is one of the oldest documentary institutions in the region; It was established by order of the late builder and founder, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, in 1968. At the present time, the National Archives oversees the organization of more than 300 archival bodies in the country, and its work is not limited to collecting and preserving the nation’s memory only. But he is working on preparing historical research related to the Emirates and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and educating young people on the history of the country in schools and vital bodies.

The terms of the Memorandum of Understanding focused on cooperating in, participating in and supporting programs and activities of mutual benefit, researching archive sources and materials related to the history of each in the holdings of the other party, digitizing and exchanging these documents, exchanging experts in the field of archives to exchange knowledge, and implementing archival training programs and cooperation in activities that promote cultural exchange.
