The importance of studies and research centers is growing greatly in many developed countries, and certainly what is meant here is national or independent studies centers, those that do not carry special agendas, nor are they directed by suspicious parties, but rather are centers for measuring the trends of local public opinion towards various issues, social, political or health, and everything that concerns groups of society and decision-makers alike.
The role of these research centers in Western countries and America in particular is clear, and they often provide the community through their studies a great service, as they convey the views of the community in a scientific and thoughtful manner, provide reliable content, and publish societal trends, to be reported by all media and all websites, Even social media, while the culture of opinion polls and in-depth research studies on social phenomena, is still absent from the Arab world in general, and the UAE is no exception to that!
I was drawn to an initiative by the Trends Center for Research and Consultations, a national research body, in which a group of citizen and Arab researchers work. It organized a conference for dialogue between think tanks and media, during which they discussed and consulted on how to cooperate between think tanks and research in the country, and media institutions. , to reach the different segments of society, especially the youth, and this initiative undoubtedly deserves appreciation and gratitude, and it is in itself a classy idea for cooperation that serves society and decision makers alike
The strange thing is that the UAE includes a good number of research and studies centers, and all of them undoubtedly provide important and necessary content that includes all local, regional and global issues.
Moreover, these centers, which are reliable, and follow scientific methods in measurement and work, can conduct scientific and thoughtful opinion polls on every issue of interest to society, or a government decision in any ministry or government institution, that is intended to be issued, or has actually been issued, but, despite that There is no clear cooperation between them and the ministries and government departments, which makes us wonder: Do the executives not want to know the people’s trends, or are they completely confident that everything they do is correct, and therefore does not require knowledge of the public’s trends or opinions?!
There is nothing logically preventing government agencies from trying to poll the public’s opinion and knowing their trends, and there is nothing logical to prevent public opinion from being measured about many procedures or decisions, especially those that affect the lives of citizens, businessmen, private employers, and other groups of society. !
Certainly, the authorities will get good indicators, which may push them to improve their procedures, or correct their decisions for the better. It is not a condition or important here that all opinion polls are made public, as far as it is concerned to benefit from them for the benefit of all. Can we see that soon?!
