An organization made up of lawyers has asked the Games Organizing Committee and the government to ensure that if athletes and officials who come to Japan at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics indicate their intention to apply for refugee status, they will have the opportunity to be examined.

The offer was made by the "National Refugee Lawyer Liaison Conference" made up of lawyers who support refugees.

If the athletes and officials of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics have indicated their intention to apply for refugee status, saying that it is important to ensure the opportunity to be examined for refugee status in Japan, the embassy staff will be notified. It means that he requested in writing to the Games Organizing Committee and the government that he would be able to contact support groups and lawyers for interviews without contacting them.

Regarding the Tokyo Olympics, he expressed his intention to apply for refugee status when a Ugandan athlete who had disappeared from his hotel was protected, but he returned home without taking any procedures.

Koichi Kodama, a lawyer of the organization, said, "The refugee team is also participating in the Tokyo Games. I hope that the host country will take action without embarrassment."
