A long-awaited decision, both by the government and the opposition.

The Constitutional Council, seized by Matignon but also by left-wing deputies, will render its decision on August 5 on the law relating to the management of the health crisis, which notably provides for the controversial extension of the health pass.

"A first referral has just been registered by the Constitutional Council on the law relating to the management of the health crisis definitively adopted yesterday by the Parliament", indicated the Constitutional Council in a press release on Monday.

Prime Minister Jean Castex had announced his intention to seize the Sages of rue Montpensier on July 20, ahead of the examination by parliament of this text finally adopted this Sunday evening.

"Extreme" examination conditions and "disproportionate interference" with freedoms

For their part 74 deputies PS, LFI, PCF, Liberties and Territories and ecologists have just lodged an appeal with the Constitutional Council.

They denounce the conditions of examination of the text in Parliament deemed "extreme" harming its "sincerity".

They also criticize “disproportionate attacks” on freedoms, in particular with the health pass, with the restrictions targeting shopping centers, places to eat or long-distance travel in their sights.

They also consider that taking into account the imposed deadlines, the stocks of vaccines present or to come, will not make it possible to vaccinate the population concerned by the past creating a "violation of the principle of equality".

Parliamentary marathon closed on Sunday

In the aftermath of demonstrations that brought together more than 160,000 people in France, Parliament definitively adopted Sunday evening, by a final vote of the Assembly, the bill which provides for the vaccination obligation for caregivers and the controversial extension of the health pass.

The deputies thus ended the parliamentary marathon started on Tuesday with a large vote, with 156 votes for, those of the majority and the right, 60 against, from the left and the RN and 14 abstentions.

The health pass - negative Covid test, vaccination certificate or recovery certificate - entered into force last week in “places of recreation and culture” bringing together more than 50 people.

Except for 12-17 year olds, exempt from health pass until September 30 according to the agreement reached between deputies and senators.

In August, with the bill, this pass must be extended to cafes, restaurants, fairs and trade shows, as well as to planes, trains, long-distance coaches and medical establishments except in emergencies.

And shopping centers by decision of the prefects.

The bill makes compulsory the vaccination of staff in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes and retirement homes, firefighters, certain soldiers, as well as for professionals and volunteers with the elderly, including at home.

In addition, people tested positive for Covid-19 must be placed in isolation for a non-renewable period of ten days in the place of accommodation they determine.

Isolation may end earlier if the test is negative.

After a first national mobilization on July 17, dozens of demonstrations again took place on Saturday “for freedom” and “against the health dictatorship”.

The president of the Patriots and ex-n.2 of RN Florian Philippot called for a new demonstration on Saturday in Paris.
