A large meteorite was sighted in the south of Norway on Sunday night. A number of eyewitnesses reported to the police because they saw extremely bright lights or heard loud noises, as the Norwegian broadcaster NRK and the newspaper VG reported on Sunday. A VG reporter described the spectacle as a ball of fire in the air that lit up the whole sky. The glow of the celestial body was reportedly to be seen shortly after 1.00 a.m. (local time) in large parts of the south of Norway and even in Sweden.

Experts assume that parts of the meteorite must have landed in the region west of Oslo.

You are now working hard to find the alleged stones weighing several kilograms, said Vegard Lundby of the Norwegian meteorite network, the NRK broadcaster.

These are valuable objects of investigation for researchers.

The size of the meteorite was initially unknown, but the eyewitness reports indicate a considerable extent.

Some suspect a weight of several tens of pounds.

According to the VG report, experts assume that the meteorite comes from the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
