Volunteers in the Ahr crisis area should leave it as quickly as possible due to the difficult circumstances there.

This was announced by the Supervision and Service Directorate (ADD) on Saturday.

The reason she named was the heavy rainfall that weekend, the destroyed infrastructure and the unclear traffic situation.

According to the information, shuttle buses are used to bring the helpers back.

Anyone who had planned to go there as a volunteer should not do so.

The Koblenz police headquarters had previously appealed to helpers not to make their way to the disaster area in Rhineland-Palatinate.

"The willingness to help from the population is still overwhelming and unbroken," it said.

Due to the large number of people "who went to the disaster area today to help, there is currently a complete overload of all access roads to the Ahr valley, as well as the roads in the disaster area itself," it said in a statement on Saturday.

After the storm in the Ahrweiler district, the number of dead remains unchanged at 132, and the number of injured at 766. A police spokesman said on Saturday in Koblenz.

Furthermore, 149 people were still missing.

The people in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia are preparing for new showers and thunderstorms. The DWD reported on Saturday that storms due to heavy heavy rain were “locally narrowly limited”. In the flood region in Rhineland-Palatinate, the disaster control set up emergency shelter for the citizens as a precaution.

According to the supervisory and service directorate, information will be provided in possibly affected locations.

"The preparations are ongoing.

The population is warned again on social media and leaflets are distributed, "said a spokesman.

Accordingly, there is no acute risk of flooding for the Ahr.

Nevertheless, increased surface water is to be expected when it rains, especially in places where parts of the sewer system have been destroyed or clogged.

This could lead to a new run of water in cellars locally.

No new catastrophe expected in NRW

In North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Weather Service (DWD) is not expecting a new storm disaster for this weekend.

That said the qualified meteorologist Jacqueline Kerrn on Saturday in Düsseldorf.

In individual areas that have already been damaged by floods, however, problems could arise from the evening onwards, when large amounts of rain flushed rubbish into the drains and thus blocked them.

There are still mountains of bulky waste on many streets.

The State Office for Nature, Environment and Consumer Protection warned the citizens: "Stop working on the waterways when the rain comes." Local heavy rain can occur on waterways that run off through sand or gravel banks, trees and other debris from past storms already impaired, suddenly lead to local flooding.

A first rain front with moderate precipitation had already reached southern parts of North Rhine-Westphalia by noon.

It also rained in the district of Euskirchen and in Eftstadt-Blessem, which was particularly badly damaged by the storm of the century.

On Saturday evening or in the first half of the night on Sunday there could be violent thunderstorms and heavy rain in some areas, said DWD meteorologist Kerrn.

Where exactly, however, cannot be predicted with great advance.

No need for a severe weather warning

In its situation report for North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Weather Service assumed local storms caused by heavy rain with quantities between 25 and 40 liters per square meter.

"In several hours, it can also drop by 60 liters per square meter locally." For comparison: In the past week, extensive continuous rain with rain amounts of over 150 liters per square meter caused the flood catastrophe in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

Unlike at the beginning of last week, the DWD saw no reason for a severe weather warning or even an official severe weather warning.

This time, no long-lasting heavy rain on a broad front is to be expected, explained Kerrn.

The thunderstorms should subside on Sunday night. According to the DWD, there can still be heavy showers and thunderstorms on Sunday as well. Individual thunderstorms with heavy rain up to the severe weather area are possible, it said. Showers and thunderstorms should largely disappear on Monday night.
