The situation keeps getting worse.

In Occitania, the fourth wave of the Covid-19 epidemic is more like a tsunami for the health authorities as its dynamic is strong.

So much so that the Regional Health Agency has decided to launch an appeal for the mobilization of the population, the respect of barrier gestures and vaccination.

[# Covid19] The incidence rate has increased very significantly in #Occitanie over the last 7 days, going from 74 per 100,000 inhabitants to 228 per 100,000 on a regional average, i.e. more than 4 ❌ the alert threshold! # GestesBarrières # Screening #Vaccination https://t.co/GHaDAq5WnT https://t.co/JOLTNDx3wy

In one week, the incidence rate has tripled and it now reaches 228 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the region, or four times the alert threshold.

It is the youngest who are the most affected with a rate among 20-29 year olds of 651, thirteen times the alert threshold and an increase of 168% in one week.

Increase in hospitalizations

If tourists who come to rest in the mountains or on the coast may be affected or participate in the mixing of the population and therefore in the spread of the virus, their positive cases are not counted.

Even though those affected are younger, this outbreak has a health impact on hospitalizations.

Entries in care facilities for positive cases have tripled in two weeks, whether for classic hospitalizations, which have gone from 30 to 90, or in intensive care, from 10 per week to 30 today.
