The pressure on critical care services welcoming Covid-19 patients remained moderate on Friday, according to figures from health authorities, while the country recorded an outbreak of contaminations with 21,000 new cases.

The intensive care units welcomed 69 new patients with the most serious forms of the disease over 24 hours, against 59 the day before and 64 on Wednesday, according to figures from Public Health France.

In total, 872 patients are treated in these services, against 868 the day before or 902 last Monday.

But the decline recorded since the peak of the third wave, with almost 6,000 patients at the end of April, has stalled for about two weeks.

1,733 hospitalizations over the last seven days

The same scenario presents itself unsurprisingly for hospitalizations due to Covid-19, which include resuscitation figures.

Hospitals admitted 330 new patients over 24 hours, up from 292 the day before, for a total of 6,802 inpatients.

The regular decline recorded since the peak at the end of April, with more than 31,000 hospitalizations, has also marked time for the past two weeks.

The one-week figures, which smooth the trend, are up sharply.

There are 1,733 hospitalizations over the last seven days, including 355 critical care admissions.

They were, a week earlier, respectively 1,174 hospitalizations and 190 intensive care admissions.

Health authorities fear that the pressure on hospital services will increase in the short term, given the increase in cases of contamination recorded since the beginning of July.

The one-week figures, which smooth the trend, are up sharply.

26 deaths this Friday

There have been 21,493 new cases of contamination over the last 24 hours, against barely 11,000 a week earlier.

The positivity rate, which measures the number of positive cases compared to the number of people tested, continues to rise steadily to 3.7%, against 3.2% the day before and 2.7% Thursday.

The daily death toll is 26 Friday, the pandemic having killed 111,616 people since the spring of 2020. On the vaccination front, just over 37.1 million people, or 55.1% of the population, at least dose.

And 44.2% of the population has a “complete vaccination schedule”.
