On July 20th, President Xi Jinping and Peng Liyuan, UNESCO’s special envoy for girls and women’s education, were invited to deliver a video speech to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Women’s Education and Poverty Reduction Forum.

　　Peng Liyuan said that eradicating poverty and embracing happiness are the common ideals of all women.

Receive education, acquire knowledge and skills, and women have the power to escape poverty.

Through unremitting efforts, China has achieved a comprehensive victory in the fight against poverty, and hundreds of millions of Chinese women have completely shaken off poverty.

We have adopted a series of measures to guarantee women's fair enjoyment of the right to receive education, so that they can become beneficiaries, participants, and contributors to the fight against poverty.

With the state attaching great importance to it, the active support of social organizations, and the selfless dedication of people from all walks of life, women’s education and poverty reduction will have a source of motivation.

The local government of Guizhou Province has implemented the "Splendid Plan" women's characteristic handicraft industry, which has driven more than 500,000 women to find employment at home.

With the help of the "Spring Bud Project", more than 3 million impoverished girls were able to complete their studies, and when they grew up, they continued to convey the power of love with a grateful heart.

Zhang Guimei has rooted in poverty-stricken mountainous areas for more than 40 years and founded an all-free women's high school, doing his best to help nearly 2,000 girls realize their college dreams.

Such stories happen every day on the land of China.

　　Peng Liyuan said that at present, there are still 435 million women living in poverty in the world, and the gender gap in education is still obvious. The new crown pneumonia epidemic has made women face new challenges in poverty reduction.

　　Peng Liyuan said that since the establishment of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization 20 years ago, sisters from various countries have upheld the "Shanghai Spirit", exchanged experiences in women's development, promoted cooperation in various fields, and contributed to the advancement of cooperation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

We must gather love to make a trip, and we will continue to deepen cooperation in women’s education and poverty reduction, let the light of education illuminate the path of women’s hope, and allow more women to have the opportunity to excel in life.
