is a classic festival held in the arms of the beautiful nature of Gangwon-do.

The Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival will visit the audience on the 28th.

He has been the artistic director of this music festival since 2018.

World-renowned pianist Son Yeol-eum joins us.

Q. One week before the opening of the Daegwallyeong Music Festival...

What is your opinion?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: Last year, it was unclear whether the event was held or not, so we were very nervous, but in fact, compared to then and now, the trend is getting worse.

Although we are closely watching right now, in any case, we are doing our best to hold the music festival safely.]

Q. The theme of this year's music festival is 'mountain'…

What does it mean?

[Son Yeol-eum/Pianist: Because of Corona, I was decorating with Korean artists, so I wanted to find the most Korean keywords.

However, since I am a person who performs concert activities around the world, when I thought about what the most Korean landscape would be compared to other landscapes, a mountain came to mind, and the word mountain is alive, the opposite of death, one of those things. I liked that it could be used in a negative sense, and when I tried to think about those two things together, I thought that living is like crossing a mountain, so I came up with this storytelling thinking.]

Q. Inauguration of artistic director in 2018… How did you do it?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: In the beginning, of course, there were a lot of difficulties and I did a lot of work, but now it seems to be smoother than then, and I am doing well thanks to everyone's hard work and help.]

Q. Is there anything you are proud of at the 18th Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival?

[Son Yeol-eum/Pianist: This music festival is the first time that world-class artists, including regular artists, pianist Baek Hye-sun, pianist Baek Geon-woo, and soprano Seo Ye-rim, participate in this festival.]

Q. The best performers in one place… The secret to hiring?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: Well, actually, when I participated as an artist at other music festivals before that, I thought that there was no discrimination between artists, who was more important and less important, and without such an artist, I wish there was a music festival where everyone was treated well. I had a bit of a wish, but with that in mind, I have musicians like this, so I think a lot of people like it.]

Q. Wrote the commentary booklet myself… Is there any special reason?

[Son Yeol-eum/Pianist: Among musicians, there are many people who went to art middle school and art high school from a young age and grew up surrounded by musicians, but I was not like that.

Since I was the only person in my family who played music and graduated from a regular middle school, there were always people around me who didn't do music, so there was always a desire to explain music a little more kindly.

Music doesn't have lyrics, and especially instrumental music, so it's a little difficult to understand because it's abstract, but the writing is kinder than that, so I thought I'd like to solve it with a book.]

Q. You are active in various fields…

Where does energy come from?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: Well.

I think it's because I like music so much.

How can I deliver music better, introduce more things, I think I am doing it with this in mind.]

Q. What is the ideal form of the Pyeongchang Daegwallyeong Music Festival?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: Actually, the biggest goals can be said to be two. First, I hope that it will be a music festival that is loved by the most local, Gangwon-do people and is considered the best music festival by the people. I hope it will be a music festival that can come from all over the world.]

Q. How is life as a world-famous pianist?

[Son Yeol-eum/Pianist: Because of Corona, the performing artists suffered a lot, and dozens of performances were canceled for me too, so I lived a little quietly for the past year.

However, I think I will resume playing in Europe from September.]

Q. Is there any field you would like to challenge?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: Actually, I don't really have a concept like a challenge that I usually pursue. I want to be faithful to what is given to me, learn more of the new repertoire, and become a person who works hard from time to time.]

Q. What dreams or wishes do you want to achieve in the future?

[Sohn Yeol-eum/Pianist: First of all, I hope that this situation will pass quickly because the people and the world are having a very hard time because of Corona, and I hope that our performing arts world will be able to give you good music again and do that, and everyone. I really hope you are in good health in this difficult situation.]
