Why did Arafat's mountain take this name ?

And for whom?

Explanations abound for naming the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah the day of Arafat, and naming the place Mount Arafat. And in the narration of Yaqut al-Hamawi in the book Mu’jam al-Buldan, Mount Arafat was named by this name because of the human pilgrims’ confession of their sins on it, and God Almighty promised His servants who stand in Arafat forgiveness for all sins and sins. God - may God’s prayers and peace be upon him - said: “When he stands in Arafat, God Almighty descends to the lowest heaven and says: Look at My servants, scattered in the dust.

And Arafat is the ninth of the month of Dhul-Hijjah, and it is considered one of the best days for Muslims, as it is one of the virtuous ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, where pilgrims stand on this day on Mount Arafat, which is the most important pillar of Hajj and Arafat is located on the road linking Mecca and Taif.

The time for standing in Arafat begins at the time when the sun sets on the ninth of Dhu al-Hijjah, until the dawn of the Day of Sacrifice, which is the first day of Eid al-Adha, so that the pilgrim completes the rest of the rituals of Hajj imposed on him.

The pilgrim leaves from Mina towards Mount Arafat with the sunrise to stand there, on the ninth day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah. Inclusive of all the boundaries of Arafat on this day, as that invalidates his Hajj.

It is better for the pilgrim to combine part of the day and part of the night when standing on Arafat, and it is desirable in this great situation that the pilgrim maintain complete purity, face the Qiblah and do a lot of supplication and remembrance, and that is because the Holy Prophet said: Before me, there is no god but God, alone, who has no partner, to Him belongs the kingdom and His praise, and He has power over all things.”

Why is Mount Arafat called by that name?

The scholars differed as to the reason for naming Mount Arafat by this name, as there were several reasons for its name, namely: that when God sent Adam and Eve down from Paradise to the earth, He sent them down in two different places, so the location of Mount Arafat was the place where they met, and they got to know each other in it.

It was also reported that Gabriel was circumambulating Abraham, peace be upon him, teaching him the rituals and scenes, and he was circling with him in the mountain, repeating to him his saying, "I know, I know," and he used to reply to him by saying, "I knew, I knew."

It was said that people gather on the day of Arafat on the mountaintop, and get to know each other and their Lord, for it is a day when mercies are descended, and necks are freed, and it is one of the best days in which it is desirable to do good, and fasting on that day expiates the previous year and another coming to its owner It must be pointed out that it is one of the days of the sacred months, as it is the day on which God perfected His blessings upon His servants, and perfected their religion for them.

The word Arafat means the Aqsa Mosque of the feelings of Hajj, and it is the only one that lies outside the boundaries of the Haram, where pilgrims stand on it after the noon prayer on the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah.

It was said that it was called that because people confess their sins in it and ask God to forgive them and to pardon them.

It was also said that it was taken from the custom, which means the sweet smell, because its smell remains sweet and fragrant despite the spread of the smell of blood and sacrifices in Mina on the day of sacrifice, or because it is located in a sacred valley.
