Welcome to the third season of “Mysteries from Here”, the

20-minute

sound series of

the

Summer in Your Ears

podcast

devoted to extraordinary stories, tales and legends.

From Rennes-le-Château to Aix-en-Provence via Gauchin-Le-Gal, guides, authors, storytellers tell you the mysteries of our regions.

These stories sometimes conjure up History, local identity, fears, even desires ...

For this third episode of this new season, we join Poitiers, in Vienne, to evoke the Grand'Goule, the bloodthirsty monster who has become the city's emblem.

The legend takes place in the 6th century.

In the labyrinthine cellars of the city, Radegonde, Queen of the Franks and founder of the Sainte-Croix monastery, will fight the monster.

A struggle between good and evil that will end happily for the one who will become holy.

The legend becomes one of the most popular in the city, becoming a source of festivities.

The Grand'Goule is today the emblematic monster of the city.

Good versus evil

A legend and a popular story told in this episode by Monique Bourneuf, tour guide, who highlights the importance of this monstrous figure, like the Tarasque in Tarascon or the dragon slain by Saint Marcel in Paris.
