The General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced, on Monday, the start of replacing the covering of the Kaaba, as is the custom annually.

The presidency said in a statement on its official website that the process of replacing the kiswa was carried out by "a specific work team from the King Abdulaziz Complex for the covering of the Kaaba, where the team began to dismantle the old kiswa and install the new one, then install it in the corners and surface of the Kaaba."

The statement was quoted by Abdul Hamid Al-Maliki, Adviser to the General President and Under-Secretary for the Affairs of the King Abdulaziz Complex for the covering of the Kaaba, as saying that "the kiswa is draped from the outside with patterns woven with black textile threads (in the jacquard manner) on which the word (Oh God, O God) is written (there is no god). Except for God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God), (Glory be to God and praise be to Him), (Glory be to God the Great) and (O Dayan, O Manan) and these phrases are repeated on the pieces of all the covering cloth.”

He explained that "the number of pieces of the covering belt of the Kaaba is 16 pieces, in addition to six pieces, 12 lamps at the bottom of the belt, four lamps placed in the corners of the Kaaba and five lamps (God is Great) above the Black Stone, in addition to the outer curtain of the door of the Kaaba.. The cladding consumes about 850 Two kilograms of raw silk, which was dyed black inside the complex, 120 kilograms of gold wire, and 100 silver wires.”

Al-Maliki indicated, according to the statement, that "about 200 manufacturers and administrators work in the King Abdulaziz Complex for the covering of the Kaaba, all of whom are trained and qualified citizens."
