A mobile phone image reveals that a child has cancer

A strange coincidence helped American nurse Josie Rock discover that her only infant son had cancer, when she was taking some pictures of her son through her mobile phone.

Rock told the British newspaper, The Independent, that she was taking a picture of her baby, Asher, when the lighting in the room suddenly changed, causing the flash on her phone to go out and the baby's eyes to widen.

"When I went to delete the photo, I noticed that one of the eyes showed the 'red eye' that we sometimes see when we take pictures with the flash, while the other was glowing white."

Fortunately, as a nurse, Rock knew that this could be a symptom of a common childhood illness, and instead of deleting the photo, she thought it could be a sign of some form of cancer.

Indeed, the doctors' diagnosis came in line with the mother's fears, and they said that Asher had what is called "retinoblastoma" of the third degree, which is the second most dangerous category of tumors and in which the retina may have separated from the back of the eye, according to the American Cancer Society.

According to Monte Carlo International.

Asher was treated with intravenous chemotherapy and a local laser, which was tough for the whole family, and seven years later he is still undergoing a variety of treatments and back-to-back checkups.
