The Senegalese, invited to participate in the COSAFA Cup which brings together the selections of southern Africa, managed to play the final, lost on penalties against South Africa, host country and favorite (0-0, 5-4 to tab).

"They were heroic"

The young local "Lions" missed two shots on goal, including the decisive sixth not on target by goalkeeper Pape Seydou Ndiaye.

A disappointment which should not hide the good course of this young team according to the coach Joseph Koto, joined by RFI: "I am very happy with my boys because no one would have bet on our ability to push South Africa to the 'on penalties.

I am proud and I congratulate my players.

They have to keep their heads up.

They were heroic ”.

For many, these Senegalese played in second or third division clubs.

They nevertheless managed, after an inaugural defeat against Namibia, to beat Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Eswatini (on penalties).

The three cases of Covid-19 in the workforce weakened them but not overwhelmed this team.

Congratulations to @BafanaBafana for lifting the COSAFA CUP in Gqeberha.

We're so proud of our boys Siyethemba Sithebe and Veli Mothwa for their individual accolades of Player of the Tournament and Goalkeeper of the Tournament.

South Africans, at home and better armed?

have held their place by conceding no goals in six matches.

The local “Bafana Bafana” add a fifth COSAFA Cup to their record and come a step back from Zimbabwe, crowned six times.

Good news for South African football in the aftermath of
