The Champions League, flagship club football competition in Africa, is it living its last months, on the eve of the final of the 2021 edition, scheduled for July 17 in Casablanca between Al Ahly (Egypt) and the Kaizer Chiefs ( South Africa) ?

The boss of African football, Patrice Motsepe, has indeed reaffirmed

the existence of an African Super League project

bringing together the best clubs on the continent.

I am very excited that a lot of broadcasters have come to me to tell me that they want to contribute to the African Super League,

” he said.

Even if he assured that the 54 federations affiliated to the African Football Confederation (CAF) will benefit from the project, the president of CAF remained unclear on the contours of this future elite.

In February 2020, the president of the International Football Federation (FIFA) Gianni Infantino made very concrete proposals concerning a possible African Super League.

Ahmed Yahya, second vice-president of CAF, responsible in part for supervising the project announced on July 16, 2021 in Rabat, will he follow the same line?

Support for the World Cup every 2 years which raises questions

The boss of FIFA has in any case undoubtedly appreciated the clear and displayed support by Patrice Motsepe for a preliminary draft of the World Cup organized every two years against four always.

Africa could be the biggest beneficiary of a World Cup every 2 years,

 " said the South African.

Asked twice about the accounting for a World Cup both with an African Cup of Nations (CAN) every two years, Patrice Motspe recalled that he remains in favor of a CAN organized as often as possible.

“

At the right time, we will make the right decision,

” he said of the number one sporting event on the continent.
