Joe Exotic may be spending less time behind bars than expected.

The trainer, sentenced in 2020 to 22 years in prison for hiring killers to assassinate his rival Carole Baskin and for animal cruelty, could get a lighter sentence, if Deadline is to be believed.

Joseph Maldonado-Passage (his real name), currently in prison in Fort Worth, Texas, with the help of his lawyers, got the case he was on trial for reconsidered.

If the three judges in charge of the case decided to confirm his conviction, they chose to cancel his sentence to reassess it (and therefore, perhaps, to reduce it).

In fact, Joe Exotic should remain in prison, but he could be released sooner than planned.

The convict's lawyer argued that his client's sentence had been calculated separately on the counts of attempted murder, and the judges conceded that the sentences should not have been added.

No more series with Nicolas Cage on Amazon

Joe Exotic had been fighting for several months to obtain an early release.

He even cherished the hope of being pardoned by former President Donald Trump, who seemed inclined to give some celebrities reductions at the end of his term.

The trainer will have finally been ignored by the former occupant of the White House.

This good news for Joe Exotic comes as Amazon announced that the series project, in which Nicolas Cage was to play the zookeeper, has been canceled.

Another series, for the streaming service Peacock, with Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin and John Cameron Michelle as Joe Exotic, is however still in the works.
