The list includes three cities that will be voted on, in November of this year, as the nomination decision was adopted at the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Council of Museums, which was held virtually recently, in the presence of 170 members from 118 countries.

The International Council of Museums, established in 1946 under the umbrella of the United Nations, is a global organization specialized in the field of museums, their development and coordination, and its membership includes more than 50,000 specialists from 122 countries, and nearly 20,000 museums around the world.

The Emirates branch of the International Council of Museums «AECOM - Emirates» - in cooperation with the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Dubai Municipality, and the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing in Dubai (Dubai Tourism) - had submitted the UAE file to host ICOM 2025 in Dubai, under At the end of last April, the International Council of Museums chose the cities that will compete to host the conference, namely Dubai, Stockholm (Sweden) and Kazan (Russia).

She said: “The UAE and Dubai occupy a prominent position at the international level, and it will be the first time in the Middle East. In which an Arab city has been hosting the International Council of Museums conference since its establishment in 1946, the conference will be held for the first time in a hybrid format, in person and virtual.”

Hala Badri pointed out that the main axes of the hosting file emphasize the importance of sustainability, cooperation and coordination through knowledge and experience exchange programs, which will make societies more prepared and responsive to facing changes, ensuring that the community needs are met and finding innovative ways to communicate with its members.

The head of the Emirates branch of the International Council of Museums (ICOM Emirates), Engineer Rashad Bukhash, stressed that the UAE and Dubai's arrival in the list of final nominations to host the ICOM General Conference is evidence of the high level the state has reached in designing and managing museums, including the museums it includes. International ones such as: the Louvre Abu Dhabi, and the national museums, the most important of which are: the Etihad Museum, Al Shindagha Museum, Qasr Al Hosn Museum, and the Museum of the Future in Dubai, in addition to many government and private museums that represent the history, heritage and culture of the UAE.

Bukhash stressed that if the UAE hosts the ICOM 2025 conference in Dubai, this will be the culmination of the tireless efforts made by the state represented by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and local departments concerned with the fields of culture and heritage, and is the first Arab country to host this international conference, and will add extensive expertise and experiences. The International Council of Museums Conference is held every three years. Its 25th session was held in 2019 in Kyoto, Japan, and the 26th Conference is scheduled to be held in Prague, Czech Republic in 2022.
