Kévin Azaïs and Vincent Rottiers embody brothers with divergent interests in "Brothers in arms".
The half-brothers find themselves co-starring in a movie for the first time.
We had already seen them together on screen in the choral film “La Marche”.
They have in common a talent on edge!
Kévin Azaïs and Vincent Rottiers, half-brothers in the city, are amazing in
Brothers in Arms
by Sylvain Labrosse.
"I don't know if the desire to play comedy is hereditary, but it's wonderful to have managed to exercise this profession together", they confide to
20 Minutes
.
We could believe it so much the two actors are convincing brothers with conflicting interests in this beautiful drama.
The first dream of a peaceful life near Brest with his partner.
The second wants to return to the country, to the Balkans, from which a common and shameful past that never ceases to haunt them has alienated them.
A shock duo
Vincent Rottiers, the eldest, we saw him recently in
Sauver ou perir
by Frédéric Tellier and
Sympathie pour le diable
by Guillaume de Fontenay. Kévin Azaïs, the youngest, was on the bill for Les
Combattants
by Thomas Cailley and
Place publique
by Agnès Jaoui. Both offer complementary performances in
Brothers in Arms
. “My character is less savage than that of Kevin, insists Vincent Rottiers. He has become less savage than his brother. We take great sympathy for this boy torn between the past and the future, between two incompatible loves - his brother and his partner who adore him each in their own way.
Kevin Azaïs camps a mad dog that we feel capable of all the follies to keep control over his elder.
“He didn't evolve at the same pace as him, maybe because he didn't meet anyone who made him want to settle down.
His brother is his point of attachment and he cannot accept to see it escape him.
Their face-to-face is heart-breaking as the two actors are so perfect.
They are regularly expected to kill each other.
It is one of the strengths of the film that the direction of Sylvain Labrosse has been able to capture this tension.
Not like in real life
If they had already been reunited in the choral film
La Marche
by Nabil Ben Yadir, this is the first time that Vincent Rottiers and Kévin Azaïs have so many scenes together.
“It was very natural to find ourselves like this, almost organic, and fun to be antagonistic which has nothing to do with our relationship in life.
We wish them wholeheartedly because the brothers of the very handsome
Brothers in Arms
show their love in a rather brutal way.
