Nearly 7,000 Covid-19 contaminations have been recorded in the last 24 hours, a level more seen since early June, said Public Health France on Tuesday, while the surge of the Delta variant, more contagious, led the authorities to extend the pass health care and make the vaccination of caregivers compulsory.
According to Public Health France, 6,950 new contaminations were recorded in the last 24 hours, against 3,585 approximately a week ago.
A rising positivity rate
The positivity rate - the percentage of people who tested positive out of all those who took a test - rose to 1.2% against 0.8% a week ago.
At the same time, 7,076 Covid patients are hospitalized (including 246 new hospitalizations in 24 hours), against 7,137 on Monday.
And 933 serious cases are being treated in critical care units (including 37 new admissions in 24 hours), up from 957 cases on Monday and around 2,000 a month earlier.
22 deaths in 24 hours
The number of patients in critical care due to Covid fell below 1,000 last Wednesday, for the first time since September 23.
22 new deaths were recorded in hospital in 24 hours, bringing the total toll since the start of the epidemic to 111,436 deaths (including 84,931 in hospital).
Since the start of the vaccination campaign, 36,213,362 people have received at least one injection (or 53.7% of the total population) and 28,438,478 people have been fully vaccinated (or 42.2% of the population), according to the Directorate General of Health.
