In previous lay judge trials, the prosecution has sentenced him to 20 years in prison, while the defendant claimed that he was "not actively involved in the murder."
In a ruling on the 12th, Judge Masahiro Tomoshige of the Chiba District Court said, "Although the defendant himself had no purpose to obtain insurance money, he wanted to maintain a good relationship with his adoptive father who was the mastermind, so he became a perpetrator. He then sentenced him to 18 years in prison, saying that he was a sneaky and ruthless crime that played an essential role in the murder and disregarded human life.
