Workers are tied at one end, but the other end is pulled and tied to the radiator...

How to fasten the safety rope of the air conditioner?

  Reading tips

Summer is the peak period for air-conditioning installation and maintenance, and air-conditioning workers often need to use safety ropes during the operation.

However, in actual operation, the situation is complicated, and the other end of the safety rope of some air-conditioners can only be pulled and tied to the radiator by people, which poses a greater safety hazard.

Air conditioners expect the floor design to provide the convenience of opening windows nearby, or to reserve outer edges and hooks for high-altitude operations.

The lawyer suggested that prevention is far more important than relief after the event in terms of the safety of air-conditioning workers.

Summer is the happiest season for Liu Bingbing, an air-conditioner who works in Beijing.

During this period, the business demand for air-conditioning installation and maintenance has gradually increased, and his daily order volume will increase significantly.

However, even if he wants to take more orders to earn money, Liu Bingbing would rather give up for his own safety when the safety rope is difficult to fix and the operation is too difficult.

Safety rope is a necessary safety guarantee tool in the process of air-conditioning work. Workers need to tie this rope of life when working at a height that may fall 2 meters or more from the reference plane of the fall height.

"Worker Daily" reporters discovered during the interview that the other end of the safety rope tied to the air-conditioning worker was not so stable. Some were tied to wardrobes and other furniture, and some were only pulled by people, posing a greater safety hazard. .

Safety rope fixing points taken on-site

From a professional level, Liu Bingbing is confident in his air-conditioning installation and maintenance skills.

However, despite more than ten years of home appliance repair experience and high-altitude operation certificate, Liu Bingbing only performed repairs when safety conditions allowed him when he received the order.

When a colleague repaired the outdoor unit of the air conditioner in 2017, because the protective window stepped on was seriously aging and could not bear the weight, even the outdoor unit and the protective window fell down. This incident gave Liu Bingbing a great warning.

"At that time, the other end of his safety rope was pulled by someone, but he suddenly fell, and the people inside had no time to react. Even if a heavy object was tied to the house, it could cushion it."

Since then, Liu Bingbing has been more cautious in his work: buy nylon safety ropes with a tensile force of at least 1,000 kilograms from an air-conditioning accessories store, and replace them with new ones if there is any breakage or wear.

He introduced to reporters, “Usually when you have to go to work, two people go together. First, tie a safety rope to a radiator or a heavy object, and then tie the safety rope to go out of the window while another person pulls it inside." If there is not a sufficiently stable fixed point, the job will be abandoned directly.

Master Yang, who manages more than 50 air-conditioning workers, is more cautious about the use of safety ropes. His workers need to use five-point safety belts and special fire safety ropes with a pulling force of 2,000 kg and carry a 20-meter-long extension rope. .

According to Master Yang, the environment in which safety ropes are used in different communities is different: "Some residential air conditioners are installed directly next to the window, and people can complete the operation by leaning over the window. The location of some residential units is not well designed. Not only do people hang outside, there is no place to hold them around."

Workers such as Liu Bingbing and Master Yang said that the use of people to pull and tie heavy objects to fix the safety rope cannot guarantee absolute safety when hanging out.

Liu Bingbing said, "The reality of each household is different, and it is not so easy to find a unified fixed hanging point." Therefore, they chose to complete the maintenance operations of the outdoor unit as much as possible indoors.

It takes 20 minutes to wear a full set of safety equipment

With the attention paid to the safety of air-conditioning installers, Master Yang, who implements team management, and maintenance workers specially hired by air-conditioning manufacturers, told reporters that the company would purchase insurance for workers.

However, some companies will deduct insurance costs when each bill is settled, and Liu Bingbing's actual salary has been reduced because of this.

So he chose to go to the community to take orders by himself and save money by saving insurance premiums.

In addition to purchasing insurance, in actual operation, the full use of safety belts and safety ropes is also a powerful measure to reduce operational risks.

However, wearable devices are time-consuming and labor-intensive, which will extend the working time of each order, thereby affecting their income.

Master Yang said that if you use a full set of seat belts and safety ropes, it will take at least 20 minutes to wear the device.

During the interview, the reporter found that in order to speed up work and complete more orders, workers would adopt the method of "how convenient and how to come".

At the air-conditioning installation site of an air-conditioning brand specialty store, worker Li Jun directly tied a 10-meter-long polyester webbing to his waist, pulled it by his colleagues, and leaned out half of his body to nail the external machine bracket under the window.

Li Jun told reporters that if the operating environment is good, he and his colleagues can process about 15 orders a day during peak hours. After the franchise store draws more than 100 yuan for each order, it will be divided into two people.

“If you wear a full set of seat belts and fasten a safety rope, it will take too much time. The working hours per day are still that long, but the number of orders is reduced, and the income is directly reduced.”

Without a reliable way to fix the safety rope, can workers not be able to carry out work?

In fact, there are alternative measures.

Master Yang said that if the customer allows it, the safest way is to use the lift, "but this cost is much higher and needs to be borne by the customer. Very few customers will choose to use it." Liu Bingbing said, if you really need to go out to hang For work, you need to hire a professional "Spiderman", which will not only increase the cost, but it is also very difficult to descend from the roof of the building after the safety rope is fixed.

Prevention before the event is far more important than relief after the event

Regarding how to improve the use of safety ropes, Liu Bingbing believes that at present, some residential areas are worth learning from in terms of floor design.

He said, “Now many new communities will open a small window on the balcony or near the outside machine room, so that I can walk directly from the window to the machine room to work. The risk is greatly reduced, and for the builders It is not that difficult to reserve a window."

According to Liu Bingbing’s observation, many new communities and renovated old communities are also increasing the load-bearing capacity of the machine room as much as possible. “In the past, the outer unit of the air conditioner only had two triangular brackets. Now many of the iron machine rooms are directly installed. The activity space is enough for us to operate".

At the same time, the location of the machine room should be as convenient as possible for later operations, such as directly under the window or beside the balcony.

Master Yang believes, “For workers who go out for suspension operations, if the outer wall can be pre-laid with a fulcrum for the fixing and suspension of the safety rope, or design an extended outer edge pedal, it will be more secure.” But in reality In the case, such design improvements are relatively few.

Hao Xudong, a partner and attorney of Beijing Xingzhu Law Firm, suggested that every worker engaged in high-altitude operations should obtain a special operation certificate and refuse to operate when the on-site conditions are relatively risky.

In addition, air-conditioning workers should choose a formal company to join, sign a labor contract with the company, and require the company to pay work injury insurance in accordance with national regulations.

"If the company allows workers to work without a license, they need to bear corresponding legal responsibilities."

Sun Lixin, a consultant of an insurance brokerage company, suggested that air-conditioners should purchase accident insurance for high-altitude operations to add a piece of protection to their safety, so that they will not be helpless in the event of an accident.

He also emphasized that the relevant insurance contract has already stated that “when the insured is engaged in high-altitude operations or other high-risk operations, he must carry out operations with a license in accordance with relevant industry safety management regulations.” If workers know that there is a high risk If you continue to work or fail to comply with safety management regulations, you may be denied compensation.

Hao Xudong believes: “For the risks of high-altitude operations, pre-prevention is far more important than post-relief, and workers’ safety ropes must be tightened from the source.”
