Vaccination appointments have been increasing since the start of the week, in particular due to the relaxation of the rules for the second injection.

In order to avoid limiting the consequences of a possible wave of contamination at the start of the school year, the government continues to target the most vulnerable people.

While the number of Covid-19 contaminations is on the rise in France (4,442 new contaminations have been recorded in the last 24 hours, against 4,081 the day before), the government wants a general mobilization in favor of vaccination.

A health defense council is scheduled for Monday to discuss the compulsory vaccination of caregivers.

The executive targets 35 million French people fully vaccinated by the end of August (against 26 million currently), and in particular the fragile people who did not benefit from the start of the vaccination campaign.

Appointments had decreased in June, but they have been on the rise again since the start of the week, by 25 to 40% depending on the day.

The possibility of receiving a second dose in a center different from the first probably partly explains this increase.

Continue to vaccinate the most vulnerable

In detail: 85% of new appointments are made by French people under the age of 55, which makes it possible to break the chains of contamination.

But what worries the government today is to be able to rapidly vaccinate the more fragile French.

And according to the health ministry, there are still 4.6 million people over 55 who have not received an injection.

The government also hopes that 85% of people suffering from comorbidity will be vaccinated by the end of August to limit severe forms of Covid-19 and hospitalizations at the start of the school year.

Currently, we are only 72%.

A third dose in the fall?

Prime Minister Jean Castex raised the possibility of a third dose for the most vulnerable French people. A priori, it would concern the oldest, who were vaccinated first, that is to say at the beginning of the year. This track was also mentioned by Jean-François Delfraissy, the president of the scientific council. This third dose of vaccine could be considered in the fall for those over 70 years old in order to re-stimulate their immune system, which is more fragile with age.
