Award-winning report The radioactive rabbits of Palomares
The
Cádiz Journalism Prize
, awarded by the Cádiz Press Association and El Corte Inglés, this year went to EL MUNDO journalist Laura Garófano, for the report 'Radioactive rabbits in Palomares', published in Crónica.
The jury has highlighted the novel and fresh approach to the subject dealt with by the journalist.
And it is that in the report Garófano goes into the contaminated burrows to expose the
radioactive rabbits in Palomares, "
a complex issue that works in depth with numerous sources, thus contributing to scientific dissemination", as they have pointed out .
As they have reflected in the minutes

with this award they have also wanted to value "the effort of the journalist in the constant search for new topics, innovating in each work with elaborate and original information, providing
a new vision to journalism in Cádiz
, without forgetting the difficulty added that entails working autonomously ".
In addition, the jury, made up of David Doña, Maika Marín, Gema Freire, Javier Sánchez Rojas and Nuria Camerino as secretary, wanted to give a second prize to the magazine program 'Siente Cádiz' hosted by Ana Huguet on 7TV.
In total, 21 journalistic works were submitted to the call for this award, which is endowed with 2,000 euros and a commemorative work.
The award will be presented at the traditional Press Evening that this year will be held in early autumn, if sanitary conditions allow.
