Volunteer online sightseeing tours will be held during the Games so that people from Japan and abroad who cannot come to the venue of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics can enjoy sightseeing.

Regarding urban volunteers who are in charge of tourist information at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the number of spectators from overseas is no longer accepted, and the number of spectators in Japan is limited, so the number of places of activity is decreasing.

Under these circumstances, the Nippon Foundation and Airbnb, which operates a private lodging agency site, decided to conduct online tours by city volunteers in English and Japanese during the tournament.

City volunteers from 9 municipalities with competition venues will be divided into 20 teams to provide tourist information around the venue.

In the demonstration of the Paralympic marathon-themed tour, a male city volunteer from Tokyo introduced the geography and history of the surrounding area by showing videos of the course and giving quizzes.

Koji Ichikawa (49), a city volunteer who demonstrated the tour, said, "I want to do a tour that will make the corona converge and make it twice or three times more enjoyable when I come to Tokyo."

Ms. Mimine Hinata of The Nippon Foundation said, "There are many volunteers who were looking forward to promoting the charm of their city, so I would like to create opportunities for them to play an active role."

If the Olympic spectators become unattended, they are also considering increasing the number of tours.

The online tour will be held free of charge from July 30th to August 29th during the tournament, and applications will be accepted from the 8th on Airbnb's special website.
