Donner broke through as a director in 1976 with the horror film classic "Omen" and followed it up in 1978 with the first modern superhero film, "Superman" with Christopher Reeve in the lead role as Superman.

During his career he was known as a reliable major filmmaker and also directed all four "Deadly Weapon" films, the adventure film "Goonies - The Skull Gang" and the black comedy "Scrooged" starring Bill Murray.

Richard Donner was also successful in his role as producer.

Among other things, he has produced films such as "Save Willy", "Any given Sunday" and two of the "X-men" films from the early 2000s.
