Tian Xuejun, Vice Minister of Education and Director of the Chinese National Committee for UNESCO, introduced on the 5th that the 44th UNESCO World Heritage Conference will open on July 16 in Fuzhou, Fujian Province; , my country has a total of 55 World Heritage Sites, ranking first with Italy.
This conference will review the cultural heritage application project-"Quanzhou: Song and Yuan China's World Ocean Trade Center", and China is expected to add another bright jewel to China's World Heritage List.
Tian Xuejun said that this legacy conference was held in the context of the continuous raging of the new crown pneumonia epidemic around the world.
As the host, China will work together with the UNESCO Secretariat, World Heritage Member States, and other "Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage" signatory and relevant professional organizations to successfully host this conference, and strive to provide distinctive features in three aspects. :
One is form innovation.
The opening ceremony of the conference will be held in Fuzhou on July 16.
At that time, the main persons in charge of the three major governing bodies of UNESCO, namely the Director-General, the Chairman of the General Conference, and the Chairman of the Executive Board, will attend the opening ceremony online and deliver speeches.
Envoys or representatives of the signatory states to the Convention in China and representatives of relevant international organizations in China will gather in Fuzhou to participate in the grand event.
After the opening ceremony, the conference will be held online. This is the first time in UNESCO's history that the issue of World Heritage will be considered online.
A series of operating specifications for online review of world heritage projects established and used by this conference will become an important reference for the combination of online and offline work in the world heritage field in the post-epidemic phase.
The second is that the results can be expected.
This conference is actually an extended version of the conference. It will review the world heritage items in 2020 and 2021, including 45 items pending review on the World Heritage List and 258 World Heritage Protection Status Reports, which are equivalent to previous sessions. The conference doubled the workload.
It is expected that the "World Heritage List" and other lists will have important updates.
Of course, according to relevant rules, whether or not it can become a World Heritage Site requires a complete evaluation cycle. It must be determined by the World Heritage Committee based on the evaluation recommendations of international professional consulting institutions and finally by the World Heritage Committee. During this conference, various countries will hold a series of supporting activities and side events, including the World Heritage Youth Forum and the World Heritage Site Managers Forum jointly organized by China and UNESCO, and 8 side events hosted by China.
