China News Service, Hefei, July 5 (Reporter Zhao Qiang) The reporter learned from Li Hongzhang's Former Residence Exhibition Hall (hereinafter referred to as "Li Hongzhang's Former Residence") in Hefei, Anhui Province that the former residence of Li Hongzhang has been closed since the 5th after the filing of the cultural relics authority and the approval of higher authorities. The museum has implemented ancient roof maintenance and circuit renovation projects. This is the first major repair of the former residence in 20 years.

Li Hongzhang, a native of Hefei, Anhui, is often called Li Zhongtang, also known as Li Hefei.

As the founder and commander of the Huai Army and the Beiyang Navy, the leader of the Westernization Movement, and a heavy minister in the late Qing Dynasty, he signed the Vietnam Treaty, the Shimonoseki Treaty, and the Sino-French Concise Treaty on behalf of the Qing government.

The former residence of Li Hongzhang, located in the pedestrian street of Huaihe Road, was built during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. It is a typical Jianghuai residential building with traditional wooden architecture. In 2013, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

As the only thematic museum in China with the theme of Li Hongzhang, and also a thematic museum showing the history of the Huai Army, the former residence of Li Hongzhang has become a characteristic cultural brand of Hefei.

The closing announcement issued by Li Hongzhang's former residence stated that since its opening in 1999, the former residence must be maintained every few years.

Due to rain erosion, some roofs have leaked and corroded, causing damage to the main cultural relics, and roof repairs are urgently needed. This will also be the first major repair of the former residence in 20 years.

At the same time, the circuit in the museum has been used for more than 20 years, and the circuit is aging, and it is urgent to upgrade.

In order to shorten the maintenance time, it was decided to carry out both constructions at the same time.

It is reported that the construction will be based on the principle of not changing the original state of the cultural relics, based on the existing physical objects, preserve the state of important historical traces, and maximize the authenticity and integrity of the cultural relics.

The construction period is expected to be one month. The former residence will be closed to the public during the closing period, and subsequent opening times will be announced separately.
