Cannes is preparing to welcome from Tuesday the 74th edition of its famous film festival, while the red carpet had not been rolled out last year because of the Covid-19.

On site, Europe 1 was able to see the joy of the hotels and palaces which will once again host the stars showing in the 27 films selected.

REPORTAGE

"I just inspected the room. You can slap the windows again so that the guest, when they arrive, will do a big 'wow' when they see the view of the sea."

In this suite at the Cannes palace Le Majestic, the final preparations are underway.

In a few hours, the room will be occupied by one of the many stars announced for the Festival which begins on Tuesday.

The city of Cannes is therefore once again rolling out its red carpet for the first red carpet in two years.

Last year, the event was canceled due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

For the 74th edition, the health rules remain in force.

"We do everything to ensure that it is very high-end"

In the reception hall of the Majestic, Charles Richez, the general manager of the establishment, takes care of the floral arrangements. The establishment must be welcoming. "It's a prestigious event and we are doing everything to make it very upscale, elegant. It marks the start of major international events in Cannes and we are lucky to have many personalities expected on this edition", he congratulates at the microphone of Europe 1. In addition to being a strong symbol of the resumption of cultural life in France, the return of the film festival is an excellent one for the palaces and hotels of the Côte d'Azur.

All the stars will stay in these large establishments.

And the latter have good fill rates.

In total, the selection is made up of 27 films.

American director Spike Lee will chair the jury, alongside singer Mylène Farmer and actress Mélanie Laurent in particular.

A dream cast that fills Yann Gillet, the general manager of the emblematic Martinez hotel: "there is a real desire of the stars to be in person."

"What is also very good is that it's the return of Cannes with the mix of festival-goers and holidaymakers. It will give the festival a little more accessible side. Festival-goers and holidaymakers will be able to see the stars , see the big dinners on the beaches, see the rise of the stairs, pass each other for breakfast, "he rejoices.

And for this manager, it is also "a little bit of rediscovering our true profession."

It is also in this famous palace that Spike Lee will put his suitcases.
