Admission scams,

Here comes again in the cloak of informationization

  Our reporter Zhan Haifeng

As the national college entrance examination in 2021 comes to an end, the enrollment fraud against students has come back under the cloak of informatization.

The Jiulongpo Branch of the Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau sorted out several types of common enrollment scams, reminding candidates and parents to take precautions.

Deception one: go to school through channels

Before and after the college entrance examination results were announced, some criminals often used the mentality of their parents to hope that their children would become a dragon and their daughters would become phoenixes. By forging documents, privately engraving seals, setting up registration offices and consulting telephones, they faked college admissions officers, relatives of school leaders, etc., and lied. It is said that they have mastered the "internal indicators", "mobile plans", "targeted enrollment plans", and "low scores and high records" of colleges and universities to implement fraud.

After the college entrance examination, a certain candidate, Xiao Xu, missed his ideal university due to a few points. Xiao Xu’s mother found Liu through a friend’s introduction. Liu said that he could first let Xiao Xu register for student status through the Internet, and then switch from online education to a certain General undergraduate education in key universities, and the number of places is limited, one place costs more than 300,000 yuan.

The police intervened in the investigation and found that this scam gang created a website similar to the admissions website of the key university, using acquaintances from local adult education and online education institutions to specifically identify parents who are rushing to the doctor to cheat.

The police reminded that there are strict work procedures for college admissions.

The college enrollment plan is uniformly announced to the public by the provincial enrollment examination agency.

Enrollment plans that have not been announced by the relevant provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) shall not be arranged.

Colleges and universities that have not completed the enrollment plan in the enrollment province must pass open solicitation for voluntary admission.

There are no so-called "internal indicators" in the admission process of the college entrance examination.

Candidates and parents should be highly alert to fraudulent information such as "you can buy college places with money", and don't be fooled by credulity and deceive.

Deception 2: Spending money to make up the recording

The "re-enrollment" scam often appears after the college entrance examination volunteer admission is over. The scammer lied to the candidates' parents that the quota of a certain college could not be filled. By spending money to "manage" candidates can get a supplementary admission quota, thereby defrauding the parents of the candidates for money. The suspect used various excuses before the exam to let the parents pay to keep the quota.

In May 2020, Chen Moumou, the parent of a candidate from another city, met a man on a website. The man said he could help Chen Moumou's children get admitted to a better school.

Through many online contacts, Chen XX believed the man's lie.

After that, he paid the man more than 70,000 yuan one after another. Not only was he not admitted, but he was deprived of money.

The police reminded: The college entrance examination admission system has a strict nationally unified certification encryption system and supervision mechanism. The so-called spending money to go to a good university, a good major, or not enough scores to go to college, etc. are all tricks.

Candidates and parents should be carefully screened when receiving notifications from unknown sources. Don't believe them credulously, and report to the police if they are cheated.

Deception three: private granting of grants

Fraudsters take advantage of the financial difficulties of some candidates at home and need to pay tuition fees through bursaries to go to college, pretend to be college staff, education department staff, or directly falsely claim that they have a project, they can apply for college bursaries for candidates and require parents to submit registration first fee.

The candidates and their parents believed it was true and sent the money to each other, but later found out that there was no such thing.

In August 2019, the parent of a candidate from a foreign country, Tan, reported to the police that he had received a call posing as a school teacher. The other party defrauded his ID number, bank card, password and other information in the name of the scholarship.

After sending the SMS verification code to the other party, Tan found that the 7900 yuan in the bank card had been transferred, and then realized that he was cheated.

The police reminded: At present, the state has established a complete student financial aid policy system to ensure that all students from families with financial difficulties at all stages of education go to school smoothly.

No matter which unit or individual provides the subsidy, students should not be required to provide ID number, bank card number, mobile phone verification code and other information on the phone, nor should they be required to pay any fees or operate on ATM machines and online banking, if any For similar requirements, please consult the school teacher and the local education department first, and do not follow the other party's requirements without authorization to avoid being deceived.
