Hardly any modern fragrance is as difficult to describe as that of a new car.

And yet it evokes associations so strong that it made it into pop culture itself.

In the cult series “Dawson's Creek”, for example, friends and couples exchange ideas around a campfire about the scents with which they associate the happiest memories.

While lovers rave about the vanilla aroma of the first date (he used it to cover up the fishy smell of his part-time job) or a grandmother thinks of her deceased husband over the scent of burning logs, the schoolgirl Andy talks about family vacations with her father: “He always asked for a new car when he rented it .

The smell still reminds me of all the family outings we went on together. "

But how does such a new car actually smell?

This is what the team at the Berlin fragrance manufacturer Frau Tonis thought about.

For the used car platform Heycar, they developed a fragrance that combines both the anticipation of the new car - even if Heycar already had a previous owner - and the fresh smell of clean textiles and new interior fittings.

The result is simply called “New Car Scent” and combines notes of green apple and lemon, which should radiate the purity and coolness of the new car, with spicy thyme, a hint of raspberries and warm suede accords. Every wearer has to decide for themselves whether they actually think of the new car. The limited unisex perfume is being raffled off these days via the social media channels of the used car platform.
