Despite the ongoing vaccination campaign, a large majority of Germans expect the number of corona infections to rise and new government restrictions in the autumn.

In a survey by the opinion research institute YouGov on behalf of the German Press Agency, 76 percent said that they expected an increase in the number of infections.

74 percent assume that measures against the pandemic will be tightened in autumn.

Only 16 percent believe that there will be no new restrictions.

Ten percent did not provide any information.

In Germany, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days on Saturday fell below 5 for the first time in around eleven months.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the nationwide value as 4.9.

Overall, the numbers in Europe are increasing again, according to the World Health Organization.

No lockdown for vaccinated people

Chancellery chief Helge Braun had given vaccinated people hope on Friday that there will be no new lockdown for them even with a new corona wave - if the vaccinations also hold their own against variants. "As long as our vaccination works very well, a lockdown at the expense of those who are fully vaccinated is out of the question," said the CDU politician to the news radio MDR Aktuell. "But those who have been vaccinated can then also be allowed to go back to normal - going to a concert as well as going shopping."
