[SBS Special] The

silent war

on the table, meat VS vegetarianism Part 2 - ①

Diet meat warfare, the result?

In the SBS special broadcast on the 4th, the second story of 'Six Wars' was revealed.

On this day's broadcast, twin bodybuilders Baek Jong-ik and Baek Jong-geun, who are usually interested in diet, and Jeong Jeong-gam, an internal medicine specialist, and Shin Eun-ho, an orthopedic surgeon, went on an experience of living in vegan and carnivore for four weeks.

The twin brothers went shopping the day before the challenge, and Jong-geun, who is going to be a vegan, put various vegetables and grains in a cart. In addition, Jong-ik expressed his disappointment because the range of choices was limited as he could not eat sugar, soy sauce, and red pepper paste, although he served a variety of meats in the meat section. Accordingly, one meal of Carnivore was somewhat lacking compared to one meal of vegan food.

Shortly after the trial, side effects were revealed on both the carnivore and vegan diets. Jong-ik, who eats a carnivore diet, complained of headaches and abnormal bowel movements. However, director Shin Eun-ho, who is on a carnivore diet like Jong-ik, said that there was nothing wrong with headaches or bowel movements, attracting attention.

The director of Jeong Jeong-gam of the vegan diet complained of side effects, saying that he had a headache and felt physically weak. In particular, Director Jeong Jeong-gam said that the number of people looking for snacks is increasing as they feel their physical strength is dropping. Unlike the director of Jeong Jeong-gam, who maintains the usual amount of food without only removing meat, Jong-geun increased the amount of food and said, "I was worried about strength and physical condition, but I did not feel much difference. Rather, it is good because I have a light body."

Mr. Jong-ik of Carnibore in the second week said that the diarrhea he had seen in the first week had disappeared. And he said, "If I ate 100 before, now I eat a lot from 40, but it's about 60. The feeling of satiety continued and the amount of food decreased," he explained.

Director Shin also revealed that he plans to reduce the diet from 2 meals a day to 1 meal a day because there is not much feeling of hunger. This drew the attention of colleagues. When asked if he was lethargic, Director Shin said, "There is no such thing, my overall condition has improved a lot. I am not tired." He also added, "I eat only meat, but I am losing weight. I hardly exercise, but I have lost a lot of weight. It is not understood by common sense."

Comparing the caloric intake of carnivores and vegans, it was confirmed that the calorie intake of the carnivores diet decreased sharply. It turned out that this was also because, unlike vegans, they could not eat snacks.

The four-week experience went smoothly, but the twin brothers declared their abandonment in the third week for personal reasons. On the other hand, Director Jeong Do-gam and Director Shin Eun-ho continued the experience until the end.

Director Shin Eun-ho, who had been on the carnivore diet after the four-week experience was over, mentioned a positive change, saying, “I had a bad bowel habit before the diet, but it became a completely normal bowel movement in the fourth week. And the director of Jeong Jeong-gam of the vegan diet drew attention by revealing, "Before the diet, there were many skin problems, but now the troubles are almost gone."

Twin brothers who completed the challenge in the 3rd week. Jong-geun of the vegan diet lost 2.3 kilos, and Jong-ik of the carnivore diet lost a total of 3.5 kilos. In addition, it was confirmed that body fat decreased more in Carnivore. However, blood tests showed that all levels improved in the vegan, while the cholesterol level in the carnivore rose sharply.

Specialists who successfully completed the four-week challenge. Director Shin Eun-ho of the Carnivore diet lost a total of 6.3 kilos, and Director Jeong Jeong-gam of the vegan diet lost a total of 1.7 kilos. In addition, the amount of body fat reduction was superior to that of Carnivore. Also, in terms of blood vessel indicators, carnivore showed a positive effect in all aspects, making it surprising.

In response, the expert said, "A vegan or carnivore diet can be healthy. However, there are few scientific studies and no data to support it. That is why it is controversial."

French professor Audrey said that all living beings on Earth have the wisdom of survival. And he said that by studying a type of single-celled Mycobacterium aureus, we can understand how living things choose food. So, why can't humans overcome their appetite even though they have all the necessary nutrients?

It was argued that the optimal nutrient for humans is meat, but there were also voices against this. In the broadcast, another experiment was conducted to check what the optimal food our body wants.

The six experimenters decided to go to war between meat and vegetarianism, and fat and carbohydrates. Therefore, they were divided into two groups for 4 weeks, and 3 people decided to eat a meat-eating, high-fat diet and 3 people to a vegetarian, high-carbohydrate diet. What changes will they bring in 4 weeks?

In the experiment up to the 3rd week, it was confirmed that the calorie intake decreased in both the vegetarian diet and the meat-based diet. The expert said, "The vegetarian group mainly ate a diet with low energy density and consumed fiber and protein, so they were able to eat consistently with low calories. And the meat-eater group increased fat and reduced simple sugars to release a substance called ketones, which suppresses appetite. As a result, it seems that the appetite will decrease further toward the second half."

After the third week of the experiment, it was revealed that Choi Ji-won lost 6 kilos. In response, he said, "Eating everything you want and not starving, if you eat everything you want and eat healthy, it seems like you have lost it well. In the past, most of my diet was filled with animal protein, but now I am filling my diet with plant protein."

Min-woo, who was on a meat-eating group diet, had a hard time eating because he looked like he was inhaling a storm. He said, "It decreased from 10 to 1 in 9. The feeling of satiety came quickly and the habit of overeating disappeared," he said. And he was satisfied when revealing his clearly reduced belly fat.

Meanwhile, at the end of the broadcast, the changed appearance of the experimenters gathered in one place after the fourth week of the experiment attracted attention. The results of the diet yukchae war were expected to be revealed next week, raising expectations about what kind of changes they would have made.
